Product Description
A gabion, also called gabion basket, is a wire mesh cage made of woven hexagonal wire mesh. Wire size varies depending upon hexagon dimension. If the wire is metal coated, the wire diameter ranges from 2.0 mm to 4.0 mm; If the wire is PVC coated, the wire diameter ranges from 3.0 mm to 4.5 mm (including PVC coating). The outline border wire is thicker than the interior wire by one gauge.
Characteristics:
(1) Economy. It is simple to fill the gabion with stones and seal the gabion.
(2) Easy to operate, special techniques are not necessary.
(3)Gabion baskets have a strong capacity to resist elements, corrosion and heavy weather.
(4) The wire mesh container can withstand an alteration in the shape or dimensions of it to a great degree without caving-in.
(5) Gabions also have advantages over more rigid structures because they can conform to ground movement, dissipate energy from flowing water, and drain freely. Their strength and effectiveness may increase with time, as silt and vegetation fill the interstitial voids and reinforce the structure.
(6) Gabion baskets have satisfactory permeability, and are resistant to being washed away by moving water. They have some advantages over loose riprap because of their modularity and ability to be stacked in various shapes.
(7) Save on transport costs. Fold gabions when you want to ship them, and assemble at the construction site.
